White Coral Cookie (Korean: 백산호맛 쿠키, baegsanho-mat kuki) is an NPC introduced in the Song of the Night Sea update (v5.8).
White Coral Cookie is the old, kindly keeper of the Lunar Lighthouse, and the grandmother of Star Coral Cookie. She has a reputation amongst sailors for her tall tales, and for singing the intriguing yet calming Star Song. As she has grown older and her health has failed her, her determination to share her knowledge has only grown.
Character Inspiration[]
White Coral Cookie is likely based on bleached coral. In short, coral bleaching occurs when external stressors cause photosynthetic, pigmented algae in coral to become toxic to it and subsequently be expelled from the organism, rendering it a very pale or entirely white color. Beyond bleached coral and White Coral Cookie's visual and naming similarities, coral that has been bleached has a much higher chance to contract diseases; such a phenomenon relates closely to White Coral Cookie's health failing her in her old age. This relation is further supported by her Appearing Cookies trivia which indicates that her coral "hair" was not always white[1], much like real-life bleached coral which once held colorful hues. Overall, ailing, pale coral is used as a vehicle in White Coral Cookie for "Cookie-ifying" the human process of aging, in which one may become more susceptible to illness and gain grey/white hair.
