Once upon a time, mystical beings held a very real presence. Each protected their own domain of the world and possessed great power. All creatures adored them and worshiped them for their greatness. Among these great beings were the
Fairy of the Sea and the
Guardian of the Moonlight.
The Guardian of the Moonlight came to be in a city far, far away, but her powers soon reached the very corners of the night sky, rising and falling together with the moon. Whenever the Guardian of the Moonlight drifted across the night sky with her hair gleaming so radiantly in her wake, the gentle night breeze greeted her, and the comforting darkness rippled away like the ocean's waves. Her crescent moon left a glowing trace in the sky, illuminating the darkest of nights. Her golden arrows sent rays of brilliant moonlight over the ocean, transforming the surface into a dazzling treasure trove. This breathtaking spectacle had everyone stand still and marvel at the night sky.
The Fairy of the Sea was no exception. Even though her sole purpose was to guard the ocean, even she could not help but take a moment to gaze up at the night sky. There she saw the soft clouds, twinkling stars, the moon... and the Guardian of the Moonlight riding on her crescent moon in her robes of ivory white.
Captivated by the scene above her, the Fairy soon lost her interest in the sea, and the creatures of the sea started to worry. The whale would come up to the surface, beckoning the Fairy. The ocean birds tried to reach the Fairy with their songs. The Fairy would momentarily listen to the ocean's calls, only to look back up at the night sky again. Alas, the moonlight had taken over the Fairy's heart, for it longed for its light for much too long.
All pleaded to the Fairy of the Sea to return to her duties as the protector of the ocean. The dragons, the other guardians, the angels, and even the other fairies... all asked her to awaken from her dream, but the Fairy of the Sea remained silent. Instead, she built a tower with frozen waves that would never fall in an attempt to reach the night sky.
The Fairy of the Sea refused to be in the presence of light other than the light of the moon. She would stay inside her tower during the day, and only when the last beam of sunlight left the skies would she climb to the top of the tower. As the Fairy stepped into the moonlight, she would look up at the night sky. The moon was always there, along with its dazzling Guardian by its side.
It was one of those nights when the Fairy of Sea looked down at the sea, for she felt a burning passion within. Surely it was not her heart that could burn with such passion but the raging waters below? Or was it some malicious spell she was under? But to the Fairy's surprise, the ocean remained cold and calm, and the tower stood there tall as always, so close yet so far from the moon. The Fairy then raised her sword, pointing its blade at the moon. The blade glistened in the pale moonlight, capturing the Guardian's attention. She, who had never looked down for all those years, slowly turned her gaze towards the sea. And that is when their eyes met.
Time seemed to stop for the Fairy of the Sea at that moment: had it been a second, or perhaps a whole lifetime...? Just as she was about to gather her thoughts, the Guardian took a step closer.
The Fairy of the Sea could not help but close her eyes at the dazzling sight of the Guardian's brilliant locks, her glowing arrow, the crescent moon, and of course the moonlight itself. Rays of light poured down into the sea, and the Fairy of the Sea began to wonder if she truly wanted to face the moonlight at long last or keep her eyes shut and treasure this moment alone forever. Was she truly prepared...? That's when she heard a voice, clear and bright. "Open your eyes." The Fairy of the Sea did as she was told and looked up. Then, she grasped the hand emerging out of the blinding light.
Many could not figure out how the Tower of Frozen Waves had suddenly vanished. Where did its owner go? Did she fall asleep for an eternity? Had she left once and for all? None knew the answer. Instead, a new legend surfaced: the dark side of the moon held an ocean.
