Lantern in the Snow[]

Two Little Cookie Friends[]

Cutscene03

Sherbet Cookie is first introduced as a dear friend of Cotton Cookie Cotton Cookie. She regularly visits his home to bring supplies and keep him company while he is sick with an unknown illness. During one of her visits, she greets him cheerfully and recounts the events of her day before more hesitantly asking if he's alright and still feels cold. Sherbet Cookie admits that he does, explaining that he can't even touch a glass without covering it with frost. He seems resigned to his illness and even suggests that it may be his time for the Frost Witch to take him away, referring to the stories of their village.

Cotton Cookie dismisses the idea as nothing but a scary story for kids, promising that even if the Frost Witch does show up, she would protect him from anyone and fend them off with her staff. Sherbet Cookie briefly laughs this off before growing serious again, saying that he occasionally feels strange. He describes that the colder he feels, the stronger the snow, and that he can hear somebody calling for him from far away only to see nothing but endless snow each time he tries to follow the voice. He wonders if the voice belongs to the Frost Witch, to which Cotton Cookie strongly denies it again and pleads that he not think about the Witch. She reassures him that he's only tired of staying at home and promises that the two can go wherever he wants once he feels better. Sherbet Cookie thanks her for being such a good friend, though once he is left alone once more, he is called again by the mysterious voice.

Cutscene06

The next day, Cotton Cookie visits him again, only to find that Sherbet Cookie has gone missing. She immediately runs out of the house to search for him, just barely able to see two figures amidst the snow and guessing that the second figure is the Frost Witch before the two disappear from sight. Cotton Cookie is moved to tears before gathering her resolve, braving the harsh mountains alone to further her search. While suffering through the sharp winds, Cotton Cookie wonders if that was what the world had always felt like to Sherbet Cookie. She continues to think of her friend up until the very moment her consciousness succumbs to the cold.

The Frost Witch[]

Cutscene08

After regaining her consciousness, Cotton Cookie Cotton Cookie finds herself in an unfamiliar cave of ice and is greeted by the Frost Witch, Frost Queen Cookie Frost Queen Cookie, who scolds the young Cookie for recklessly roaming the snowy barren alone before drawing her attention to her friend. Sherbet Cookie, who had been lying by Cotton Cookie's side, is as cold as a block of ice and unable to answer her worried cries. She turns her anger towards the Witch in his silence, accusing her of cursing him and demanding that she return his life. Frost Queen Cookie simply explains that his time has come to be one with the snow and that she is only upholding the order of nature.

Frost Queen Cookie offers to grant Cotton Cookie a glimpse of the truth to show her the true nature of what she has foolishly called a curse. She explains that a powder imbued with pure Life is what has brought Cookies to life, and that this same energy is also what fuels their very world and allows it to exist. In order to keep the mechanism of the world in perfect equilibrium, Nature itself created a complex of fundamental principals that required Guardians to ensure this order is maintained. Frost Queen Cookie reveals herself to be one of these Guardians, tasked to ensure that "Frost Children" will safely reach the Source as they are fated to by Nature. In her frozen domain, the Frost Children, afflicted by neither illness nor by curse, will find their final peace and become one with Nature again. She likens the Frost Children to seeds destined to become trees, to a fire burning through forests to allow for new life to come forth, and calls the process a blessing.

Cotton Cookie refuses to believe the Witch's words and claims that Sherbet Cookie doesn't wish for any of this. Frost Queen Cookie refutes this by saying that it must be part of his natural will, as this is simply the way Nature is. Cotton Cookie pleads that there must be something she can do regardless, crying that she will go to any lengths to rescue him. Frost Queen Cookie reiterates that it is impossible to stop the flow of Nature, though suggests that there may be a way to temporarily halt it for some time with the use of a Wind Flower. which grows atop a towering cliff and feeds off the warm rays of sun. She warns that searching for it will be an impossible task in the midst of a raging blizzard, asking if Cotton Cookie is truly willing to accept the risk that she may miss Sherbet Cookie's last moments while wandering among the frozen ridges. Cotton Cookie swears to find the Wind Flower no matter what.

Warm Yellow Light[]

Despite numbing cold and an injury to her hand, Cotton Cookie Cotton Cookie successfully obtains the Wind Flower and returns to Frost Queen Cookie Frost Queen Cookie and Sherbet Cookie. He wakes up to see Cotton Cookie knelt by his side, apologizing for leaving without saying goodbye and being met with swift forgiveness. She reminds him of her promise to always stay by his side and pleads that he not leave her behind. He tells her not to worry and reassures that he won't disappear, but will instead follow his dream of being a snowflake drifting across endless tundra.

Before achieving this dream, however, Sherbet Cookie wants for Cotton Cookie to know what her company meant to him. He recalls how he had lived his life up until that point, realizing that snow had always resided in his heart from the very beginning, and that it had slowly filled him from within. He often imagined becoming one of the billions of snowflakes making the ocean of blindingly white snow. Even though he isn't sure of when, at some point, he began to see Cotton Cookie amidst the bleak, dreary snow plains alongside her yellow lantern. Wherever he went, the dim light was there, and he understood that the light had been there to light his path and keep him from getting lost. The light felt warm, comforting, and kept him from feeling lonely. Cotton Cookie expresses that she felt the very same way, that she never felt lonely because she had him.

Cutscene14

As the effects of the Wind Flower fade, Sherbet Cookie reminds her that they must go and that the time has come to part ways. He asks that, just as he remembered her each saw the light of her lantern, she think of him whenever snowflakes fall from the sky. Cotton Cookie continues to staunchly deny his fate, begging him not to leave and asking how she could ever let him go. He simply thanks her for everything she did for him as he dissolves into snow, leaving Cotton Cookie sobbing to herself as the snowflakes drift around her. Through her tears, she admits that she always knew he would leave one day, but wanted to stay beside him and listen to his stories nevertheless.

"At long last, I feel alive. I... I can go anywhere...!"

Much to Frost Queen Cookie's surprise, a droplet of warmth is able to keep Sherbet Cookie's fading soul together and create a Nature's herald just like herself. While he will never return to his former life, Sherbet Cookie seems to still retain his memories and excitedly asks Cotton Cookie to look as he flies through the sky. She speechlessly observes that he looks so free, understanding that he has finally found his true self. He references their earlier conversation about traveling once he gets better and invites her to come along with him, only for her to quietly thank him once again and accept that their time together has come to an end. She replies that she will stay and protect everything they held dear while encouraging him to travel far and wide, saying that it will be enough for him tell her of his travels once he returns.
