Want a taste of THIS hammer?

Schwarzwälder (Korean: 찰스, chalsu, "Charles"), also known as Choco Werehound Brute (Korean: 초코크림 늑대 망치맨, choko-kurim nugdae mangchi-man, "Choco Cream Wolf Hammer-man"), is an Epic Cookie released in the Braver Together! update (v3.8). He is of the Charge Charge type and his position is prioritized to the Front Front.

Choco Werehound Brute—or, according to many, Schwarzwälder—is an underling of Head Icon Licorice Cookie and follower of Head Icon Dark Enchantress Cookie who relishes in violence, fear, and all things bad... alongside tea and other more refined things, though he'd rather no one knows about that. Raised in a noble family, this conflicted yet ambitious Cake Monster wants nothing more than to abandon his past and be known as only a rowdy ruffian instead of a pampered pooch.

Game Description[]

And if the sound of the distant thumping of this fearsome giant's heavy feet is not enough, his roar will make you faint! Choco Werehound Brute might be no more than Head Icon Licorice Cookie's underling running itsy-bitsy errands, but his ambitions do not end here. Far from it! One day, he will become the strongest Cake Monster, and then, THEN...! The whole world will fear the name "Choco Werehound Brute!" And so, the big dreamer bids farewell to another gorgeous sunset under the pouring rain... The life of an upstart villain is rough and tough, but Choco Werehound Brute must be strong. He must not let anyone know of his proper aristocratic upbringing and his real name... Schwarzwälder.

Initial Cooldown 2 sec

Each one of Schwarzwälder's regular attacks has a chance to stun the target. The first cooldown of his skill will be shortened, allowing for faster skill use. Upon using the skill, Schwarzwälder will receive the Howling effect, increasing his own ATK SPD, and DMG Resist, and increasing the team's ATK. When the effect duration is over, Schwarzwälder will charge at the enemies, strike them with his hammer, stun them, and inflict the Hammer Shock debuff. The debuff will reduce the enemies’ ATK and cause them to receive more damage from the next Schwarzwälder's skill attacks with the hammer. While Schwarzwälder is using his skill, he will briefly become resistant to interrupting effects.

Changelog[]

Appearance[]

As with all hound-type Cake Monsters, Choco Werehound Brute possesses wolf-like qualities, even being able to howl like a wolf. The term "werehound" indicates that he has qualities of both a typical Cookie and of a Cake Monster, similarly to how a werewolf is a half-human/half-wolf individual. His base form seems to be made entirely from chocolate ingredients (perhaps including black forest cake, as his name suggests), with his torso being a cupcake, his head a slice of cake, and his fur icing and/or syrup, while his eyes and horns are likely made with cherry ingredients typical of black forest cake. His hammer is presumably made from a roll cake in a similar way to Roll Cake Cookie's own hammer.

Personality[]

VILLAIN ORIGIN STORY OF SCHWARZWALDER 🔨 - Cookie Run- Kingdom

Choco Werehound Brute acts in a very haughty, tough manner, acting particularly contrarily to those who oppose him or doubt his abilities. He doesn't take losses very gracefully and often goes through unfair measures to ensure his victory or spite those who have already defeated him, as do the rest of Licorice Cookie's gang. Choco Werehound Brute is initially presented as being an empty-headed ruffian—lending well to his title of "brute"—which is especially apparent in regards to his (now absent) rudimentary, incomplete way of speaking.

Despite his hardened presentation, Choco Werehound Brute possesses a sense of dignity and a desire for personal fulfillment underneath; for instance, he tells Head Icon Licorice Cookie he "has [a] private life too" after being met with defeat and demanded to do too much. Choco Werehound Brute also has a refined side, which he tries to hide to the best of his ability. His description states that he comes from a "proper aristocratic upbringing," his brutish speech and tone often slip into something more gentle in his quotes, and he is said to enjoy a cup of tea alone in secret when his coworkers grate on him too much. Though he conceals almost all of his more sophisticated tastes, he is quite open about his interest in wearing lavish gowns.

In truth, Choco Werehound Brute is deeply embarrassed by his pampered past; he considers it a sign of weakness and therefore does everything in his power to stifle its coming to light. A large portion of Choco Werehound Brute's actions are done to make himself appear (or at least feel) more threatening and powerful to those around him. Always trying to prove himself as the best villain Earthbread will ever know, his dire efforts to show his strength are met with varying reactions and results—while foes like GingerBrave & Friends on first acquaintance often are intimidated by his brawn, those who know him and his vulnerable, desperate self better find it difficult to take his faux grandeur seriously.

Choco Werehound Brute's given name, Schwarzwälder, is a German word meaning "black forest," which references the German dessert known as Black Forest gateau (German: Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte, "Black Forest cherry torte"). It may be a remnant of the noble family and lifestyle of his past, as it is known that Choco Werehound Brute abandoned the name in order to curate his brutish persona.[2] As a Cake Monster with a name based on a European dessert and a relation to high society, he is similar to Esterházy, a butler NPC shown during Timeless Kingdom; it is unknown if these two are related beyond sharing a species.

Age Notes[]

Schwarzwälder's age is not confirmed. However, the following details relate to his age and can be used to draw inferences on how old he may be.

  • Schwarzwälder's description stating "He must not let anyone know of his proper aristocratic upbringing and his real name" implies that he is past being raised from a child state. This is supported further by the original Korean version of his description, which states that he "grew up in a noble household."[2]

Trivia[]

  • According to his loading screen trivia, "When Head Icon Licorice Cookie and Bat-Cat give him a rough time, Schwarzwälder likes to have a nice cup of tea alone in secret..."
  • Schwarzwälder was the first playable non-Cookie character in Cookie Run: Kingdom. He was the second playable character to not have the word "Cookie" in their name, however, the first being Head Icon GingerBrave.
  • Schwarzwälder was the first playable character to initially be a non-playable Boss.
  • Schwarzwälder's Skill art atop

Schwarzwälder's Skill art atop Head Icon Black Pearl Cookie's Skill icon; notice the lighter lines around the top and right sides of the Skill icon

The icon of Skill icon Choco Chip Hammer is physically based upon that of Head Icon Black Pearl Cookie—that is, its specific art is overlain on Black Pearl Cookie's Skill icon, though it is misaligned and the original art underneath is visible.
  • Schwarzwälder's gacha theme is a remix of Head Icon Licorice Cookie's Trial theme from Cookie Run: OvenBreak.
  • Schwarzwälder's original Korean name (찰스, chalsu) directly translates into English as Charles.
    • This localization decision to change his original comically-human name into a dessert-related name in English follows the naming convention of all other named Cake Monsters, such as Chiffon being Alphonse in Korean (알폰스, alponsu) and Esterházy being Edward in Korean (에드워드, eduwodu).
    • This localization also makes it so Head Icon Black Forest Cookie's name is not truly a duplicate of that of Schwarzwälder as their English titles may suggest. While Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte is the German name for Black Forest cake, the character's original Korean name does not reference the dessert while Black Forest Cookie's Korean name does.[3]
    • The original Korean text of Schwarzwälder's chosen name, Choco Werehound Brute (초코크림 늑대 망치맨, choko-kurim nugdae mangchi-man), directly translates into English as Choco Cream Wolf Hammer-man.
  • Schwarzwälder is occasionally referred to as "brutewander" in the game's files.
  • Schwarzwälder's Korean voice actor, Park Yo-han, also provides the voice of Head Icon Espresso Cookie.
  • Schwarzwälder's English voice actor, Kellen Goff, also provides the voice of Head Icon Wind Archer Cookie and Timid Sugar Gnome.
  • Schwarzwälder's Taiwanese voice actor, Huang Tianyou, also provides the voice of Head Icon Almond Cookie.
  • Schwarzwälder's Thai voice actor, Ukrit Distakorn, also provides the voice of Head Icon Pitaya Dragon Cookie.
  • Schwarzwälder's German and French voice actresses, Meike Schmidt and Camille Lamache, also provides the voice of Head Icon Hollyberry Cookie.
