A delicate wing brushed over a dewy leaf, leaving a trace of twinkling dust...! An eerie little voice giggled from beneath the branches covered by a blanket of mist...! Tonight, a gleeful chorus of tiny faeries is gathering from all corners of the grove to gossip about the Queen Moonflower Faerie, whose mystical power can make even the most impossible dream come true. Tonight, a new curious listener has joined the gathering--the proud king of faeries, Pure Vanilla Cookie.
"Is it true that no one has ever seen the Moonflower Queen?"
Pure Vanilla Cookie's voice is overcome with emotion. A truth obvious to the faerie's keen ear.
"Of course, of course, dear Pure Vanilla Cookie!" "The Queen's Moonflower blooms bathed in bright moonlight, yet one must approach with caution or be enthralled by its alluring scent!" "It brings the deepest sleep, and like a fleeting dream, the flower will be gone!" "Why, do you have a wish to make, dear Pure Vanilla Cookie?"
The little tricksters only giggle at Pure Vanilla Cookie's restlessness. Was his reverie caused by a love potion sprinkled on him in his sleep? Yet the faerie king only smiles as though he did not hear the winged folk's question.
When the faeries fall asleep at last, Pure Vanilla Cookie steps out of his chambers. So quietly, not even a drop of morning dew falls off a leaf. Then, he walks towards the forest depths, step by step, for hours until he reaches the Moonflower Shrine.
Its columns hugged by vines; the shrine stands still. In its heart, a majestic lily bud rests in the pale moonlight. Smitten, Pure Vanilla Cookie recalls his wish. Now, he must approach the flower bud, untouched by its sleeping spell.
All is silent. Stillness now reigns over the grove. He takes a step. He takes another step. Something calls his name, the wind...? Yet another step. The enchanted lily scent is everywhere, but Pure Vanilla Cookie must persist through its blissful haze. A few more steps. There he stands, within the pillar of moonlight, having overcome the flower's spell. Then, the flower blooms, and from within emerges the Queen. His Queen, White Lily Cookie, her smile benevolent yet tinged with sorrow.
"You followed the lily scent. Tell me the wish that brought you here."
Pure Vanilla Cookie feels as if his soul has shrunk and withered. Humbly, he kneels before the Queen.
"My Queen, your visage haunts my dreams. My dreams, my soul, my world hold no meaning if not you, My Queen. I came to you to pledge my love eternal. Let me dwell forever by your side."
Moonflower Queen remains silent. Is it a tear or a droplet of morning dew running down her cheek? At last, she speaks.
"Forever by my side? You must be dreaming. Now, stand, and let us dance until the break of dawn..."
"The break of dawn? The mere moments cannot be compared to the eternity I crave!"
"And yet, the lily scent will lead your heart astray. Now, let us waste no time. Or have you changed your mind?"
Pure Vanilla Cookie takes White Lily Cookie's hand. She must be deceiving him, for such a love is bound to last forever. It cannot vanish with the rays of morning light. And yet they dance and dance, happy and forgetful of the flow of time as if the sun was never to come up. The time was up, and in tears, Queen Moonflower Faerie speaks again.
"Forgive me, for the waking world awaits..."
She whispers, faintly, in secret from his ears. He wakes beneath the flower bud among the temple vines. And the happy dreams remain reflected in the jewels of morning dew.
