The Marzipan Cookies are shown to be inspired by Mātchet or Medjed of ancient Egyptian theology, a lesser god depicted as a sheet ghost-like figure with eyes and human legs. While the mythology regarding Medjed is lost to time, he is known as "The Smiter", is a spiritual/demon-like deity, and cannot be seen by others, blasting fiery breaths as well shooting lasers from his eyes[2]. Like Medjed, the Marzipan Cookies shoot lasers from both their own eyes and their eye-shaped floating implements.
A single Marzipan Cookie was initially designed to be a potential playable character; in the end, the main and alternative color palettes shown in their concept art were all reused as separate characters who were relegated to being NPCs and enemies.
Marzipan Cookie 4 is the only Marzipan Cookie whose color scheme was not sourced from the original Marzipan Cookie concept art. They are also the only Marzipan Cookie who does not appear as an enemy.
The Marzipan Cookies share their Korean voice actress, Ryu Ji-a, with Fettuccine Cookie.
