What nightmarish beast is that?!
- Second Watcher

The Living Licorice Abyss is a monster risen from the depths of the Licorice Sea, serving as a boss on the last stage of World Exploration Episode 13, Snow on the Black Wall. It later serves as a boss in a battle stage in Cookie Odyssey/Chapter 3.

Summary[]

After Dark Choco Cookie Dark Choco Cookie successfully incapacitates Dark Cacao Cookie Dark Cacao Cookie with the assistance of Affogato Cookie Affogato Cookie, the Cookies of Darkness continue their schemes to overthrow the Dark Cacao Kingdom. Licorice Cookie Licorice Cookie summons a gelatinous army of monsters from the dark waters of the Licorice Sea in order to assist them with their schemes with the caveat that they will turn to dust once the sun rises. Pomegranate Cookie Pomegranate Cookie disregards this, saying that the kingdom's citadel will be under their control before sunrise.

The largest of these monsters is the Living Licorice Abyss, which focuses on attempting to break down the defensive walls surrounding the kingdom. The Black Citadel's forces attempt to stop its advance with all their might, though ultimately prove unsuccessful as the walls begin to collapse for the first time since its construction. The Cookies are forced to retreat and begin preparations for what they believe to be the Dark Cacao Kingdom's last stand—be that for better or for worse.

In Dark Enchantress Cookie Dark Enchantress Cookie's attack on the Crème Republic, Licorice Cookie Licorice Cookie summons the Living Licorice Abyss once again, swallowing the Cookies of the Lower City. Dark Cacao Cookie Dark Cacao Cookie fights against it, and is successful at defeating the monster.

Tips[]

  • A steady source of damage is necessary to defeat Living Licorice Abyss, as the boss' Shadow of Licorice passive will allow the boss to regain its HP over time. Without enough damage, a player is likely to lose the battle via timeout.
    • However, Skills that inflict Status Healing Down Healing Down such as Poison Cloud Skill icon Poison Cloud and Pompon, help! Skill icon Pompon, help! can lower the boss' healing, giving your Cookies a better chance of defeating the boss in a decent amount of time.
  • Living Licorice Abyss's Devour ability will remove the frontmost Cookie on that player's team for a long amount of time. It may potentially target a Cookie that a player needs to defeat the boss within the time limit, so it's important to field a buffer unit between such Cookies and the boss.
  • Cookies swallowed due to Devour won't receive any of the effects of allied Skills. However, if they were affected by an ability that heals over time prior to being swallowed, they will still have their HP restored until the Skill ends.
  • When spitting out a Cookie targeted by Devour, Living Licorice Abyss will deal a large amount of damage to it. Said Cookie is unlikely to survive being targeted by Devour again unless it is quickly healed up again, or unless a different Cookie is targeted by Devour.
  • Living Licorice Abyss regularly deals damage to the entire team, making teamwide healing necessary to survive for long.

Notes[]

M11392-battle idle
  • While the Living Licorice Abyss as a whole will undulate when seen on the overworld map, one of the faces on its back will specifically reach upwards, further open its mouth, and shake as if crying for help. One of the faces beside this one will also extend a clump of ooze as if raising a hand.
