The one I've been waiting for... has finally come to the Netherworld.
Involved Cookies[]
Set Story[]
As the ruler of the Netherworld,
Black Pearl Cookie always enjoyed swinging her large, pitch-black scythe as she pleased. However, she occasionally found herself lost in thought as she looked around the Netherworld, which was dark and damp like murky waters, ready to sink into the abyss... Of course, this would only last a short moment before Black Pearl Cookie returned to her normal, wicked self once more. Nothing unusual for Black Pearl Cookie, or so everyone thought.
There was one certain being who visited Black Pearl Cookie from time to time. This was none other than
Sherbet Cookie, who possessed the ability to cross the boundary between life and death. This golden messenger visited the Netherworld regularly, bringing the latest news, as well as guiding lost souls wandering around the River of Oblivion into the Netherworld. Surprisingly, Black Pearl Cookie didn't interfere with Sherbet Cookie's visits. Perhaps she could tell that Sherbet Cookie was no regular Cookie, and therefore accepted his presence. Or could it be that she was waiting for some specific news from him? When Sherbet Cookie asked her this, she simply waved her hand dismissively.
"I must bring the one I am waiting for down here myself... Alas, I am in no mood for that at the moment."
Sherbet Cookie started wondering what it was Black Pearl Cookie desired. The joyful return of spring? Or perhaps a golden little bird? Despite his efforts, Sherbet Cookie was unable to figure out the answer.
Then, on a day like any other in the Netherworld, Black Pearl Cookie was the one to ask Sherbet Cookie a question for the first time ever. Around them, the vast darkness began to crash like powerful waves, ready to extinguish Sherbet Cookie's spark at any moment.
"What flows and flows, yet never runs out?"
"Courage."
"No, the answer is evil. What is the one thing that never leaves you, no matter how hard you wish for it to?"
"Hope."
"No, it's regret! What gives you the strength to go on living, as you rethink every moment of your life?"
"This one I know...! It's love!"
"......"
"Black Pearl Cookie?"
"Ah Ha Ha! You foolish messenger. Wrong! The answer is hatred."
In her increasingly frantic mood, Black Pearl Cookie was starting to resemble those small, ordinary Cookies she always looked down upon. What was that strange look that had taken over the vicious sovereign’s eyes? Even the Celestial Messenger that had traveled far and wide was unable to uncover the truth.
"The one I've been waiting for... has finally come to the Netherworld."
Sherbet Cookie observed Black Pearl Cookie's face drain of color as her eyes turned dull and gloomy.
"Would it make you happy if that Cookie was reborn or could return to their previous life?"
"Happy? Ha ha ha! My rage and resentment has already taken over, and it is too late to turn back...!"
The Black Pearl Cookie that Sherbet Cookie had grown to know was no more. The violent waves and broken emotions that resonated in her heart had now been whirled into a torrent of chaos. And yet, everything seemed strangely quiet. Sherbet Cookie, wise as he was, realized that this was what Cookies called 'grief'. He quietly left Black Pearl Cookie to be on her own. As the Celestial Messenger, he knew that even gods sometimes need time alone. As he departed, the golden footprints he left behind glittered more faintly than usual.
Soon after, Sherbet Cookie received the news that Black Pearl Cookie had caused a new, unprecedented disaster. The golden messenger ascended to the sky and gazed down at the vortex of darkness below. He could imagine how Black Pearl Cookie would be sitting, alone, atop her throne of sunken wreckage. Although she was the only Cookie that never welcomed his visits, he sincerely hoped that he would one day have a message for her that could brighten the darkness in her hate-filled heart.
