The Merchant Cookies with story sprites all appear to be based on sea creatures, as many Crème Republicans—especially Lower City residents—tend to be. Merchant Cookie 1 is modeled after finfish in general like tuna and bluefish, Merchant Cookie 2 has aspects of a squid, and Merchant Cookie 5 has octopus traits.
Early Merchant Cookie 2 design
An early version of Merchant Cookie 2 was present in Cookie Run: Kingdom's files in a pre-release version of The Glory of the Crème Republic update (v3.2). In this prior design, Merchant Cookie 2 shared many traits with Merchant Cookie 1, such as a blue finfish motif, a dough color, and an eye color.
The Merchant Cookies' names in Korean (시장 상인 쿠키1/2/3/4/5, sijang sang-in kuki-il/-ii/-sam/-sa/-o) more accurately translate to Market Merchant Cookie 1/2/3/4/5 in English.
