Lantern in the Snow[]

Cotton Cookie first appears in the story "Lantern in the Snow". Cotton Cookie is the good friend of Head Icon Sherbet Cookie, who is afflicted with a mysterious illness that keeps him bedridden. Cotton Cookie visits him every day and brings him news of the outside, optimistic that Sherbet Cookie will be able to recover despite his worsening condition.

When Sherbet Cookie disappears from his home, Cotton Cookie immediately goes out in search of him. She sees him in the blizzard alongside the "Frost Witch", but the two disappear before she can catch up to them. The cold quickly overcomes her, and she loses consciousness.

When she wakes up, she finds herself in front of the throne of Head Icon Frost Queen Cookie, who explains how Sherbet Cookie will never recover due to him being a "Frost Child", part of a cycle of Nature that allows Life Energy to return to the world. Cotton Cookie demands for a way to rescue Sherbet Cookie, and learns from Frost Queen Cookie that a Wind Flower can pause this process for a while. Despite Frost Queen Cookie's warnings that Cotton Cookie may simply instead be giving up the few moments with Sherbet Cookie she has left, Cotton Cookie goes out to find the Wind Flower.

As Cotton Cookie scales the icy mountain atop which the Wind Flower grows, she cracks her hand a little on the mountainside, reminding her of the time Sherbet Cookie took care of her. She wonders what is going through Sherbet Cookie's head when she spots the Wind Flower, growing on the opposite side of a collapsed cliff. Despite the danger, she makes the jump and gets the Wind Flower.

Returning to Sherbet Cookie's side, Cotton Cookie is able to have one final conversation with Sherbet Cookie thanks to the Wind Flower. She tells him how she promised to always be by his side, and begs him not to leave her. Sherbet Cookie assures Cotton Cookie that he has since accepted his fate, but also tells her how the glow of her lantern in his dreams always comforted him and guided his way, reminding him of her. He asks her to think of him every time she sees the snowflakes and thanks her for everything, before fading away. Cotton Cookie cries as he disperses into snowflakes, admitting that she had always known that he would leave but hoped regardless that he would stay.

A snowy blast suddenly appears, and Cotton Cookie witnesses Sherbet Cookie's ascension into an elemental being. Frost Queen Cookie explains to her how despite his return due to "a droplet of warmth" keeping his soul together, Sherbet Cookie has now become a herald of Nature, who can never live among regular Cookies. Seeing how Sherbet Cookie can finally live the free life that he had always dreamed of, Cotton Cookie realizes that she must protect the life and home that they both grew up in, in order to hang up the lanterns to guide Sherbet Cookie whenever he may return home.

Cotton Cookie would be the first Cookie of Snowfall Village to hang a bright lantern on a tree to guide Sherbet Cookie, inspiring other Cookies to do the same for their own loved ones. This eventually became a yearly tradition for the village, one that Cotton Cookie still continues to do in her old age.

She asks Snow Sugar Cookie to deliver the gift in her stead, assuring them that her friend will like both them and Snow King.

When Snow Sugar Cookie reaches their destination with Head Icon Icicle Yeti Cookie in tow, they discover that Cotton Cookie's friend is none other than Frost Queen Cookie. Frost Queen Cookie opens the present to reveal a knitted scarf, revealing that although she does not require warming gifts, Cotton Cookie has given her one each and every year. Snow Sugar Cookie note the other gifts that Frost Queen Cookie had received from Cotton Cookie, such as mittens, a hat, socks, and even a crochet cat, remarking that the two must have a close connection for such gifts. Frost Queen Cookie admits that Cotton Cookie remains thankful for the time she allowed Cotton Cookie stay by Sherbet Cookie's side in his final moments, despite her being the one to lead Sherbet Cookie to his fate.
